The site is updated weekly with a new episode and although members may not have a big archive of back content to watch, they will get lots of new exclusive videos going forward. While it is a new site, based on the quality of the content and the fact that you cannot see it anywhere else, we still think it is well worth the membership price.
The FraternityX tour is setup similar to the member area. It has a large thumbnail with a play button on it that is a screen capture from the video, two photos represented as large thumbnails, the episodes title and a paragraph describing the video. Click any of the photos will take you to an individual episode page with a large Flash player to watch the trailer, a link to watch it on your iPhone or iPad, the title and a longer episode description. There are also 8 to 16 thumbnails for same photos from the episode that you can click to enlarge in a lightbox. The tour also link to a page describing the frat as well as links to join, login as member or to get help.
Once inside the member area you will see that it is setup the same as the tour was. The only difference in the member area is that the video player is slightly larger and of course it plays the entire video, which average 30 minutes in length. The same number of photos appear in the member area as they do on the tour.
As mentioned earlier, FraternityX only lets members stream videos. The videos are in Flash format and there is no way to download them. This may be a turnoff to some potential members, but I had no problem streaming videos as both the quality and speed were acceptable. I did notice some lag when I first clicked play but once the videos started streaming I had no problem playing them.
For whatever reason, when I clicked on a thumbnail to enlarge the photo in the lighbox, nothing happened. I’ve notified the owner of the site to get that corrected and will update this review once it has been done. The same bug appeared in both Chrome and Opera, so I do not think it is a browser related issue.
There are no bonus sites included with a FraternityX membership but it should be noted that if you signup as a recurring member, it is $24.95 for the first month but then drops down to $19.95 during additional months of membership. The $19.95 price point not only makes FraternityX cheaper than comparable sites, but it’s almost at a price point where one does not typically get access to bonus material.
Since the site is new there were only 6 episodes. That number is actually typical for a new site launch, but that number will quickly grow.
